Matt Gardner Homestead Museum in Elkton (Giles County) hosted students and staff members from the MTSU Center for Historic Preservation. The work crew, led by Tennessee Civil War NHA Preservation Specialist Michael Gavin and Center Assistant Director Caneta Hankins, spent the the day cleaning and working to restore the farmhouse to its 1896 appearance. By removing the aluminum windows and screens, wallpaper, and paneling, the day's efforts provided hands-on training for the students and helped the non-profit museum organization in its efforts to interpret the site.
