On May 17, 2016, the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce hosted a meet-and-greet with the new superintendent of Stones River National Battlefield, Brenda Waters. Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations and local businesses attended the reception, as did the CHP’s assistant director Antoinette van Zelm, fieldwork coordinator Ashley Brown, and program manager Lydia Simpson. Waters has a background in natural resources but also has previous experience with historic sites. The new superintendent comes to Stones River from William Howard Taft National Historic Site in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has also worked at Pea Ridge National Military Park in Garfield, Arkansas, and directed plant management teams for fifteen NPS units across Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming. van Zelm, Brown, and Simpson had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Waters and look forward to getting to know her and seeing what fresh ideas she will bring to a significant Tennessee Civil War site.
