Civil Rights Icons Leave Inspiring Legacy

The Center mourns the loss of two Civil Rights icons, U.S. Representative John Lewis (pictured with CHP students in 2009) and the Reverend C.T. Vivian. CHP staff and students had the great honor of taking a tour of Civil Rights sites in Nashville with Rep. Lewis before he gave an address at the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual conference in 2009. In 2015, Rev. Vivian participated in an enlightening Civil Rights panel on campus at MTSU. We feel very fortunate to have been able to learn from these two important leaders during their time, and we celebrate the legacy they left behind.
