New Pioneer Century Farm

Pioneer Century Farms are those founded in 1796 or earlier. The Holston View Farm, located west of Church Hill in Hawkins County, dates to 1795 and has been added to the Tennessee Century Farms Program. Lewis Christian, Sr., and his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Christian, had ten children when they relocated from Greene County and purchased 90 acres on the banks of the Holston River, across from Surgoinsville. Current owner Fredrick Short, a third-great-grandson of the founders, began helping on the farm when he was eleven years old. Today, three generations live on the farm, which produces cattle, tobacco, corn, and hay.
