Ethan is the graduate research assistant for the Teaching with Primary Sources–MTSU program and is also working on the Knoxville African American Cemeteries project. He has assisted with the Southern Places digital collection, the Alvin C. York State Park heritage development plan, the Luttrell property historic structure report, the Rhea County Courthouse restoration project, and the “Stories of the Road” exhibit at the Heritage Center.

Ethan’s research interests are in cultural landscapes, architectural history, 20th-century U.S. history, Tennessee history, material culture, transportation, historic preservation, rural landscapes and preservation, Century Farms, World War I, public memory, memorialization. the New Deal, and roadside architecture and culture.
