Hiwassee River Heritage Center Interpretive Trail Opening

Partners and supporters of the Hiwassee River Heritage Center recently celebrated the official opening of a new interpretive trail that focuses on the perspectives of individuals stationed and imprisoned at Fort Cass during Cherokee removal from the Southeast in the 1830s. Our Trail of Tears project historian, Amy Kostine, developed the content for the signage along the trail. The Hiwassee River Heritage Center is located in Charleston, Bradley County, Tennessee, and is a certified site on the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail administered by the National Park Service.
