Places, Perspectives: African American Community-Building in Tennessee

Places, Perspectives: African American Community-Building in Tennessee is a collaboration of the Center for Historic Preservation, the James E. Walker Library at MTSU, the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, and the Department of Geosciences at MTSU. This database includes images and historic documents related to post-Civil War African American communities in Greene County, Maury County, and Fayette and Hardeman counties. These communities represent the three grand divisions of Tennessee and provide the opportunity to take a deep dive into the creation of places anchored by churches, schools, cemeteries, and fraternal lodges.
