Townsend Cultural Center
The steering committee of the Townsend Cultural Center at the historic Townsend School in Winchester, Tennessee, is making progress on setting up a heritage room to tell the story of “Doc” Anderson Townsend, for whom the school was named. Center for Historic Preservation staff delivered two exhibit panels that convey the significance of Townsend’s service in the United States Colored Troops and his community leadership afterward.
