Parker’s Chapel Baptist Church and Cemetery Added to the National Register

Parker’s Chapel Baptist Church and Cemetery in Portland, Tennessee, was recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its significance to African American history. Freedpeople established the church and community in about 1870. Center staff and graduate research assistant Meggan McCarthy assisted the congregation with the nomination.
