Dr. Stacey Graham is the research professor for the Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University. She received her B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. She was the Center’s first fellow in 2003, before studying in Paris, France, as a Fulbright Scholar. Her dissertation traces manuscripts of intellectual and theological texts from their origins in late antique Christian North Africa to the monastic centers of medieval Europe.

As research professor, Graham provides research, writing, and fieldwork support to projects, reports, and National Register nominations. She teaches courses in the MTSU Department of History, including the Essentials and Seminar courses in Historic Preservation and Cultural Resource Management at the graduate level and Classical History, Material Culture, and Medieval History at the undergraduate level. She also offers the MTSU in Scotland study abroad program which examines historic preservation practices from an international perspective.

Graham is also the assistant director for Teaching with Primary Sources Southern Region at MTSU, a program of the Library of Congress which promotes the widespread, sustained, and effective use of primary sources from the Library of Congress in a variety of educational settings. She creates professional development content for sub-awardees across the eight-state Southern Region via workshops, webinars, newsletters, and other communications. See our YouTube channel for PD videos.

Her research interests include the history of the book, international historic preservation, and ancient and medieval history, but especially the history and material culture of cemeteries. She conducts annual cemetery preservation workshops for interested communities. See our Cemetery Resources page for more details on how to participate.
